I’ve been an avid user of Goodreads for over a decade now. I just can’t seem to quit it and honestly I’m not sure I ever will. I am not as prompt to post reviews to the platform but I do track my reading, consistently add books to my want to read list and interact with other readers on the platform. I generally keep from reading reviews until after I’ve read a book for fear of spoilers. I also like to go into books fairly blind.
My Goodreads profile is public and I’d love if you follow me there. You can find me there as Basic B's Guide.
Over the last couple of years I’ve noticed some of my reviews garnering more attention than others. This has been ruminating in the back of my mind for awhile now, so I decided to take a closer look at my top 10 most popular reviews on the platform.
You’ll never find my reviews in the one star trend but you may find a snarky one every once and awhile.
Let’s take a look, shall we.
Remarkably Bright Creatures by Shelby Van Pelt
Coming in at my MOST popular review and probably my most concise.
Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing by Matthew Perry
This was such a sad book and review to reflect on after his death just a year later.
The Woman in Me by Britney Spears
The one that helped readers hang in there for the second half.
This Is A Love Story by Jessica Soffer
A recent dnf that seemed to resonate with many.
XOXO, Cody by Cody Rigsby
The Peloton cult has spoken.
The Half Moon by Mary Beth Keane
The one where I regretted not dnf’ing.
The Wreckage of My Presence by Casey Wilson.
Another brief review but I’m going to give this one to Casey and the Goodreads algorithm.
Carrie Soto is Back by Taylor Jenkins Reid
I give credit where credit is due and this is all TJR.
Speak by Tunde Oyeneyin
Sometimes it pays to be open and vulnerable.
The Nine Lives of Rose Napolitano by Donna Freitas
Motherhood books are my absolute favorite.
I hope you found this peek inside my Goodreads profile entertaining and insightful. Perhaps it gave you a better idea of the books I gravitate towards and how some of the most basic reviews can resonate with others. Sometimes when we love a book we find it hard to find the words. Other times we want to scream them from the rooftop. You can see I’m all the extremes.
Make sure to give me a follow on Goodreads so we can chat books over there as well.
I’d love to hear in the comments if you have any strong feelings about my top 10 reviews.
Talk soon!
xoxo Basic B
