This week's basics. #8: Fueled by good books and anxiety.
The human body is 60% water so we're basically just cucumbers with anxiety.
Last week was a rough one for me. My anxiety was through the roof and I nearly made myself sick. Of course this followed my yearly physical for which I informed my doctor that I was handling my anxiety well. Even with healthy coping mechanisms (reading, exercise, talking with friends and family) I could have used a good visit with a therapist. My mission now is to find one that is a good fit for me.
Reading vibe
I finished Phantasma and LOVED it!! Think paranormal meets Squid Games with some spicy spice. A very satisfying dark romantacy.
I also listened to The Sing Sing Files by Dan Slepian and read Double Exposure by Elissa R. Sloan and found both fantastic. Sing Sing Files (4 stars) is for those of you that enjoyed Just Mercy and Double Exposure (5 stars) is for those of you that love celebrity couples.
I’m struggling big time with audiobooks this month and maybe that’s because I overdid it last month. I’m dnf’ing audios on the daily and over it. Send your favorite audiobook recommendations asap!
Currently obsessed with
Lesser Evil Popcorn is my current snack of choice. I’ve always loved popcorn but this is not only better for you but tastes fantastic. I bought the white cheddar to try but so far the Himalayan pink salt flavor is my favorite.
Finished watching
I had no idea about #MomTok or the drama until this show and the craze around it started showing up EVERYWHERE. I was intrigued enough to try it and bored enough to keep watching.
I think many are fascinated with the LDS church and Mormon lifestyle but let us not forget that this is absolutely not a clear depiction of the faith. In fact a few of the castmates admit they aren’t even part of the church. I do feel bad for those practicing and the negative attention this is bringing.
The girls are also super young and thus bring the DRAMA. The show also really turns things up with the opening credit scene while playing Unholy by Sam Smith and Kim Petras. That song is living rent free in my brain now.
It’s interesting to see a reality tv show stem out of social media. I’m sure this isn’t going to be the last we see of this. Will I watch the next season? Undecided at this time.
If you’ve watched it do you have a favorite cast member? I really like Mikayla and how vulnerable she’s been with her chronic illness. It’s very refreshing to see and I think she probably has the most positive influence on her community.
This week I’m meeting with my oncologist to discuss potentially stopping Letrozole. I’ve been on it for almost five years and I’m just over all the horrible side effects. I was hoping to take the Breast Cancer Index test but the labs LOST my original biopsy tissue. Thus my anxiety last week. Gah. Time to shake it off and make a plan!
Thanks for being here friends.
Talk soon!

I appreciate you mentioning that the show is NOT an accurate depiction of those that are of (and live by) the LDS/Mormon faith. I come from an LDS familly and while I struggle with the church in some areas, I feel like this show was very disrespectful of including "Mormon" in the title as a hook. Hope you're feeling better soon!
you really had a great reading week last week! Double Exposure and Sing Sing are both on my upcoming tbr. Big Hugs to you as you navigate these next weeks❤️
